Special Reminders for Parents and Guardians

Name Badges from the Office

We consider ourselves very fortunate to have tremendous parent help and support here at Rio as we have clocked as many as 10,000 volunteer hours in years past. With so many adults on campus, it's imperative for us to monitor who is here and where they are in order to ensure the safety of our children. So, we now have a strict procedure that will be enforced to ensure campus safety. All volunteers and visitors are required to sign in at the front office, as was our policy last year. Any adult on campus between 8:00 and 1:45 must wear one of our name badges with the location clearly written. Parents at school to pick up students at the end of the school day must stay in the quad area between the MPR and the office. Please help us keep our children safe.

Tardy Students

We also have a new, revised procedure for tardy students. Our intention is to reduce classroom interruptions and promote student learning by reducing the amount of repeated tardies we have here at Rio. We certainly understand that "life happens" and being tardy or late can be an unfortunate and, hopefully, rare event for all of us. Nonetheless, students are tardy if they arrive after 7:49 and must get an admit slip from the office as it has always been. Now, any student arriving after 8:00 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to be signed in for the day. Students will not be released to class until the parent/guardian signs him/her in. Students who report to the classroom without following this procedure will be sent to the office until the parent/guardian signs the student in for the day. Having students at school on time is one of the best ways supporting him/her both academically and behaviorally.

Medications at School

No medications can be given to a student or taken by a student without Dr.'s orders. This includes over-the-counter pills, syrups, ointments, and eye drops. Medications appearing in the classroom will be confiscated and the parent will be called. If this is a medication that needs to be taken on a daily basis for a period of time, the Health Office will obtain Dr.'s orders upon the parent's written request on the proper form. A parent may come to school to administer a medication to their child at any time. Thank you for your understanding and your assistance in keeping all our children healthy and safe at school.
